Carla Tucker

After completing her undergraduate degree at McMaster University, Carla was accepted into York University’s Education program specializing in Fine Arts integration. She served as an elementary school teacher for the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board for ten years all while continuing as a dance educator and choreographer in Simcoe County and the GTA. She has been involved with drama and dance for over 30 years and has taught in many cities including Barrie, Toronto, and Hamilton.
Carla is a registered teacher with the Canadian Dance Teachers’ Association, the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing and the Royal Academy of Dance. She has achieved advanced standing with each of these organizations in the disciplines of Jazz, Modern Theatre, Tap and Ballet. Carla has been involved with the choreography of musicals locally and in the GTA. She has choreographed such musicals as: Gypsy, Fiddler on the Roof, BIG, the Musical (received the THEA award for best choreographer), Jesus Christ Superstar, Seussical the Musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Rocky Horror Show, 13 The Musical, and Rent. Carla was the choreographer for TBTB’s young company since it’s inaugural season, under the direction of Larissa Mair. Past TBTB choreography credits include: Clark Harris’ Treasure Island, Robin Hood, Beauty and the Beast, Snow White’s Summer Adventure, Sleeping Beauty, and Cinderella. Most recently, she enjoyed her role as Assistant Choreographer for TBTB’s musical production of Crazy for You (nominated for a Broadway World Award, Toronto).
Carla’s passion for the performing arts and education led her to develop Moving Art. Her personal education in dance, drama, and other academics fostered her belief that students are motivated to learn by using kinesthetic principles and active learning. With the programmes offered through Moving Art, she strives to have students develop an understanding and appreciation of drama and dance in a completely comfortable environment. In the process of helping students build confidence, enhance self-esteem, and promote independence, Moving Art strives to enrich the students’ understanding of drama and dance as a form of communication. Since founding the company in 2002, Carla has shared her love for the performing arts with over 30,000 children, young adults, and adults alike!
